Terms of use

Last updated:

These terms explain how NoteNew works and what we expect from the people who use it. They are written to be read, not skimmed past. By using the site, you agree to them.

About these terms

“NoteNew”, “we” and “us” mean the NoteNew team, who run this site. “You” means anyone who uses it: readers, commenters and writers. “Content” means anything published here, including notes, images, profiles and comments.

Reading and commenting

Reading is free and needs no account. You may read, share links to and quote from notes in the usual way, with credit to the writer. Republishing a whole note somewhere else needs the writer’s permission.

Anyone may comment with a name. Comments are held for review, and we decide which ones are published. You are responsible for what you write in a comment. Do not post anything you do not have the right to share.

Writer accounts

Writing on NoteNew is by invitation; there is no public sign-up. An invitation lets you keep a notebook here, under these terms. Keep your sign-in details to yourself, and tell us through the contact page if you think someone else has used your account.

You are responsible for everything published in your notebook. That includes making sure you have the right to publish the text and images you upload, and that your notes follow the community guidelines.

Your content

You keep ownership of what you publish. By publishing on NoteNew, you give us permission to host, store, display and distribute your content as part of the service, for example on your notebook, on topic pages and in RSS feeds. This permission exists so the site can work. It ends when your content is removed, except for copies that have already left the site, for example in readers’ feed apps.

You can ask us to remove a note, or your whole notebook, at any time through the contact page.

Rules

The community guidelines are part of these terms. In short: nothing illegal, deceptive or harmful, no harassment, no impersonation, and no copying other people’s work.

Removal and moderation

We may remove content, or decline to publish it, when it breaks these terms or the guidelines, or when we receive a valid complaint about it. We may close a notebook that breaks them seriously or repeatedly. We try to act fairly and in proportion, but we are not obliged to host any particular piece of content.

If you believe your work has been copied here without permission, use the contact page and choose Copyright. Include a link to your original and to the copy.

Using the site fairly

Do not try to break, overload or get around the site’s protections, for example by flooding the comment or contact forms, probing for weaknesses or collecting content in bulk in a way that slows the site down for others. Ordinary feed readers and search engines are welcome.

Notes can link to other websites. Those sites are not run by us and we are not responsible for what they contain. Follow outside links with the same care you would anywhere else.

The service

We provide NoteNew “as is” and “as available”. We work to keep it running and its content safe, but we make no warranty that the site will always be available, error-free or suitable for a particular purpose. We may change, pause or discontinue features, or the whole service, at any time. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data, profits or opportunities, arising from your use of the site or from content published by others. Writers are responsible for their own notes and commenters for their own comments; we do not endorse the views they express.

Leaving

Readers can simply stop visiting; there is nothing to cancel. Writers can ask us at any time, through the contact page, to close their notebook. When we close it, the notebook’s profile and notes are taken off the site. We may also end an invitation if a notebook seriously breaks these terms.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service changes. When we do, we will change the “last updated” date at the top of this page. If you keep using the site after an update, the new terms apply.
